Canzonet

Canzonet is a poem about first love and how difficult it is to keep this passion. Throughout the two stanzas Robinson gives us the metaphor of a river's current compared to the feelings of being in love. In the first stanza she states, "'Till one wild stream combining." This simple statement infers that when one person becomes involved with another they become one wild and flowing entity that "glides" past "opposing forces" to "warm the feeble flame" of hope that their love will continue in that passion and happiness. This poem relates to many couples today who go through troubles but continue on like a river's currents.
